spring break is upon us!

well, spring break starts tomorrow, I cant wait.  I have one class tomorrow from 830am-10 and thats it! I've been sick all week so I haven't really gotten a chance to pack or anything so I am going to leave tomorrow just in time for my dr's appt in the Danvegas!

I am so excited for this break! I originally had plans to go visit my cousin in Tampa, FL but decided against it and just want to relax at my parents' house and enjoy not having school! I AM excited though about going to Blacksburg from March 26-8 though! About 20 of my amazing sorority sisters are going to be there and I cant wait to see them again! It is going to be soo soo much fun! I'm also having a dinner with an old friend on Friday and then lunch with another friend from Res Life on Sunday! I am so excited haha every time we get together, at Macados of course, we always end up spending like 4 hrs just talking and talking and talking! She always has the best stories and I think this time I have some pretty interesting ones to share as well! haha life has been so OOC (out of control for those who don't follow my abbrievs) and I definitely need to share all the shenanigans with someone!

Other than the trip to Blacksburg, my mom/family and I are going to make some small trips here and there--probs to my sister's house in Winston-Salem this wkend and Raleigh next Tuesday b/c my mom is  going to take me to my favorite Indian restaurant ever! (Udipi Cafe in Cary, NC) and then hopefully we'll have some time to make a trip to Crabtree Valley Mall in Raleigh b/c the new H&M just opened there and I cant wait to go!

I was going to run another 5k this wkend in Danville but my mom advised me not to because I have been sick all week and need to just rest.  I guess that is smart.  I just feel terrible for not running all week long (other than Monday) but I know it is for the best since I have been so sick.  But its ok, its not like I've eaten a bunch of crap since obvi I haven't been able to stomach ANYTHING all week :(

ANYways, oh yeah, I went to go see Alice in Wonderland in 3d with the boys last night! That was a good movie surprisingly.  It was also my first experience of watching a movie in 3d! I usually don't enjoy movies that are all fantasy like and not realistic at all but this one was enjoyable.

Life is going to be so crazy after Spring Break! Only 4 more wks of classes then finals! In those 4 weeks, I have a Coffee & Conversation professional event for the Women's Law Association to plan, Law Prom is the Friday after easter break (I have the prettiest dress+shoes, and no date. the boys+becky said we can do a "group hang" hahahah), then I am planning the Women's Law Association Women in the Profession dinner honoring a local judge.  INSANE.

I can't belive this time last year I was freaking out about all of my classes' grades were 100% on the final and now it's just normal.  Oh well.  I have 4 finals--> Con Law II, International Law: Refugee& Asylum, First Amendment, and Criminal Procedure.  I am NOT looking forward to Crim Pro but the others should be no prob at all! I also have Negotiations but we don't have a final exam for that, just a few long negotiations at the end of the semester.

ANYways I am not feeling so hot now and need to take some drugs and sleep.

Until later..

LOVE MANISHA! xoxo

I am boycotting the NCAA tournament.

Ok, I am some serious thoughts on this year's selection sunday (which was total and utter crap and I am boycotting the NCAA tournament and not even filling out a bracket in protest).

#1- HOW on earth did Virginia Tech not make the tournament?

6 ACC teams made the tournament, and of the top 7 in the conference, we were the only team to not make the tournament.  How this is possible? Well there are a few reasons.. but the reasons some of the other ACC teams got in is not right.  see #2 for those issues.

Well, obvi we had a TERRIBLE non-conf schedule.  IDK why Seth or our AD schedules such crap teams (i.e. uncg, col. of charleston, brown, UMBC, etc.)  THey should have learned from the past few years and started to schedule tougher teams.  Sure we've been getting easy wins at the beginning of the season but we need to have quality wins or "good loses" as they call it on espn.  We have terrible wins and only a few good wins (at Iowa, at GT, at  Wake, Clemson &UNC&Miami at home to name a few) and a couple bad losses (at miami & at BC in the regular season).  As long as they can start scheduling us more quality teams, I think that will make ALL the difference.

Another issue I have is how on earth did we not make the tournament and other crap teams (i.e. FL, Wake, UTEP, Cal, and Clemson) make the tournament and we didnt???!  Here's an excerpt from a comment made on ESPN and I could not agree with it more:
http://espn.go.com/blog/collegebasketballnation/post/_/id/6323/
"If VT doesn't belong in because they didn't play anyone (despite going 10-6 in one of the top 3 conferences in America), please explain who the following teams beat that are better than Georgia Tech (#10 seed), Wake Forest (#9 seed), and Clemson (#7 seed):

UTEP? Didn't beat a single NCAA team.
Cal? Other than beating Washington (#11 seed who they lost too not too long ago, AKA yesterday, on a neutral court)? Next best win was at home vs. Murray State (#13 seed).
Utah State? Beat BYU at home (BTW, look up BYU's nonconference schedule for a laugh) and New Mexico State (who is only in the tournament because they beat USU in the conf. tournament)
---
Final point: All the pundits want to say "They had the opportunity to win down the stretch and didn't get it done." I guess beating Georgia Tech in the last game of the regular season, on their floor, convincingly, is "not getting it done." I guess you can justify putting Wake Forest, who got blown out in Round 1 by Miami, in over VT, who got a first round bye and played a suddenly-confident Miami team, losing by just 5 - the same Miami team that turned around and only lost to #1 seed Duke by 3 in the semifinals."

I couldnt have said it better myself.

#2- BIAS

well, Wake Forest's AD is on the selection committee.  Maybe that is a reason they got in and we didnt? Wake Forest's schedule was utter crap and they played terribly.  Even ESPN recognized that:
http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/columns/story?columnist=forde_pat&id=4994869
"Wake Forest (21). The Demon Deacons have ended the season disastrously, losing five of their last six and bottoming out with a 21-point loss in the ACC tourney to last-place Miami. Coach Dino Gaudio is 0-4 in postseason games as Wake head coach. In each of those four games, Gaudio's team had the higher seed -- and in each of those four games, it lost by double digits."
Wake is TERRIBLE this year and how they got in the NCAA tourny, only their AD/selection committee knows. THey also lost to the 12th ranked team in the ACC tournament on the FIRST DAY and it was a BLOWOUT. idk...what is going on in the world.

Here are the standings of the top 7 teams after the ACC Championships:

Duke13-329-5
Maryland13-323-8
Florida State10-622-9
Virginia Tech10-623-8
Wake Forest9-719-10
Clemson9-721-10
Georgia Tech7-922-12

My thoughts--
Of course Duke was going to make it in, they got the automatic bid b/c they won the ACC tournament.  Same with Maryland--as much as I hate to say it, they are a good team this year even though they lost in their first game of the conference tournament.
I swear, I love Duke almost as much as I love VT but if you're not wearing a shade of blue w/ the type of season we're having, then you're not going to get into the tournament.  Clearly there is bias and I dont think that could have been more on display than Jay Bilas' rant on ESPN's bracketology.  Did he have to be that rude? No.  Did he have to take shots at VT? No.  He was going off on VT, even after Seth Greenberg, being the classy guy he is, called in and did not call anyone out and simply stated that he and the team were dissapointed and felt like they should have gotten into the NCAA tournament as the 3rd place team in the ACC behind the Duke and maryland powerhouses.  WHAT THE HELL JAY BILAS.

#3- Moving on..

Sooo we;re going to the NIT.  We're the #1 seed so as long as we keep on winning, we'll play at home until the semifinal/final on March 30/April 1 in Madison Square Garden in NYC.  We are playing Quinnipac on Wednesday night at 7pm in Cassell.  I hope we can win, I dont know much about Quinnipac but rest assured that I will learn come Wednesday. According to hokiesports.com, this will be our first meeting w/ this school... I know we can make a run in this ridic NIT tournament (who paired unc v w&m AT unc????! Wtf) and show the ooc selection committee what they missed in our Hokies.

Ok, I am done w/ my rant and ready to move on and focus all of my positive energy to my Hokies on Wednesday so they can bring me a W! :) IF they win, I will make a special trip up to bburg on Friday for the game, anyone want to come with??!?

Oh Cassell Coliseum. So many great memories circa 2004-2008..

love you HokieBird! <3

I run my life, Or is it running me? Run from my past, I run too fast or too slow it seems...

Well, life is interesting.  School is going well, the drama in my life is G-O-N-E. yay.  Went to the Duke and VT games of the ACC Tournament today! THis is probs the one main reason I love living in Gboro/10 minutes from the coliseum.  Duke won, and we did not. I dont want to go into the game too much...I cant talk anymore though...being there, I felt like a young girl of 18 at my first bball game in Cassell Coliseum my freshman year. SO MUCH FUN, except the losing part.  I didnt expect so many VT fans there today but it was delightful and made my little Hokie heart so so happy! I had my VT face tattoo on and the hokiebird on my hand! ANd my ginormous Cassell Guard shirt from 2004 on too.  Definitely a once in a lifetime experience....until the ACC Tournament comes back to Gboro ;)

my ticket!!!!!

Me before going inside!!! <3 VT

sister and I outside of the Greensboro Coliseum!

ANYWAYS. the inspiration of the title of this post= running.  I have been consistently running since last September.  Primarily, I began running to lose weight and get in shape/healthy but now it is just so much fun! I run about 4 miles 4-5x a week.  I have a pretty consistent 10 minute mile and I am soo happy with that! I know I've gained some weight/few lbs since December but I'm ok with that--I got to a point in December where I was just too unhealthy about it and eating balance bars and wine and thats it.  Not smart.  Now I am much better about eating enough and I only work out once a day.  I am worried though that increasing my 3x a week to 4x-5x a week is getting to me b/c the past few weeks Ive had some dizzy/lightheadedness spells so I think I am going to my DR during spring break j/ to make sure I am ok and getting all the good stuff that I need.
I seriously love running though.  No matter how crappy/tired I feel in the mornings, whenever I run, I just get such a high that nothing can bring me down! I love that feeling.  I like to run in the mornings b/c of one thing--Saved By the Bell on TBS from 7am-9am. haha its like re-living my childhood every morning and laughing uncontrollably too.  Since my dvd player from undergrad finally ended it's own life, I have no choice but to watch some random tv show when I run so why not run when something entertaining is on?!?  there is nothing better than some SBTB!! Well, since Ive increased my time from 30 mins to 40ish mins, it gets hard to make sure something I have to focus on when I run but its not usually that big of an issue...

Since I started running so much, I decided that I would run the Disney Princess 1/2 Marathon that DisneyWorld has every March.  It runs from Epcot Center to Magic Kingdom (through cinderella's castle!!!) and back to Epcot.  One of my sorority sisters (Maggie!!) did it 2 wkends ago and she did amazing! My goal is to get in shape and have the stamina to run that race in March 2011.  In order to take the baby steps I need to get to that point, I signed up for the Women's Law Association's Annual 5k for Womens Health.  The run is tomorrow (03/13/10) at 8am in the morning.  I am so so so excited.  Right now, I am all set and registered to run but since I am an officer for WLA, I told the chairs that I will help them and volunteer and not run if they needed help, so right now I dont know if I will be running or what tomorrow morning.  It is fine with me because they help me out with my events so of course I am going to help them out if they need it!  Either way, I can't wait to be apart of a great event and all proceeds are going to the National MS Society.  It will be a great time and I cant wait to get through with my first 5k *hopefully.*
I am also planning on signing up for the Susan G. Komen 5K Race for the Cure in Winston-Salem in May.  It is the Saturday before my finals but it will definitely be a nice break and energizing activity before the ridic-ness of finals!
I love love love running, I just wish I had a running buddy down here to run races with me.  My sister says she cant run, she only power walks so that is out.  The same with my mom b/c she has bad knees.  So idk who is left.  The people at school already have their running buddies, as far as I know.  Sooo IDK.

ANYWAYS.  I am tired.  I think I will drink some water, finish some hmwk, and then get to bed!

Soo here is my running sched if anyone is interested :) :

Tuesdays: start when I get back from class around 1030am
Wednesdays: I let myself sleep in to about 730 and start around 8am since I dont have class till late
