Outfit of the Day (Monday)

I had so much fun with this past Friday's OOTD post I thought, why not try it out again?!

Since I started my new job last month, I've been having a lot of fun mixing and matching (and shopping for) the new pieces in my professional wardrobe.  I recently (and by recently I mean my 3L year of law school) discovered this one company that makes some really great suits that are feminine and don't make me feel like I'm a child dressed up like a 40 year old.  The company's name is Kasper.  I initially discovered their suits at Macys when I was in law school and they are also at Belk and Dillards.  One place I never thought I would see these suits was at Tanger Outlets in Mebane, NC.  Since these outlets are a mere 30 minutes from my home, I have frequented them quite a bit since they opened so many years ago.  I love the cut of these suits- especially given my short torso and general short/petiteness. Most of all, I love the femininity of all their suits (even the ones that are matronly looking haha).

Here is today's outfit:

Ugh you can still see the dressing on my stupid infected toe.  It's been feeling better so I'm hoping to try and get a short run in tomorrow morning before work.. we will see how that goes!

While I was taking these pictures, Rusty hid and fell asleep under my (DIRTY) bed! How cute is he?? He gets so camera shy so whenever I'm taking pictures, he immediately runs away from me! Cutie was exhausted after a fun day at daycare he's been asleep all evening/night!

I figured, since I wear a lot of black and white and beiges/browns, adding a pop of color would be just what I needed! I purchased this new Essie polish in Watermelon this weekend and I am in love! It's a beautiful muted 'bright' pink/red without being overly obnoxious and is a perfect addition to my mostly black/darker wardrobe!

What's your go-to nail polish? Does your pet have any random or weird hiding/resting places?

A Farmer's Market Morning!

My mom came to Greensboro for the weekend for Mother's Day so I planned a fun-filled Saturday for my mom to enjoy and to have a mini-vacation from the everyday goings on in Danville.

We all love the Triad Farmer's Market off of I-40W and usually from the spring through the fall, my family and I go there every weekend ever since I moved here 5 years ago.  I love getting my produce and plants from local farmers instead of the big box grocery stores with their astronomical mark-up whereas this business goes straight back to the local farmers!

Here are some of my favorite pictures from this morning!

Later on, we are all going to see The Great Gatsby in 3D with one of my friends from law school and then a Mother's Day dinner at our favorite restaurant for special occasions- Village Tavern!

How are you celebrating Mother's Day? Any plans to make the day special for your mom?

Outfit of the Day (Friday)

So I thought I would try something new and throw in an OOTD post once in a while so here is my Outfit of the Day from yesterday, Friday May 10th!

IMG 20130510 174840 747(I look so weird here- I don't pose so it makes these pics a bit awkward)

On Fridays, the law firm where I work usually has a dress down/causal Friday option but I would never feel comfortable being in jeans at work so I figured, what a great compromise would be a nice dress/blazer combo with some sandals that are easy on my feet!  If you read my last post, you know I have an infected foot so shoes were pretty difficult to wear this week.  You can kind of tell in this picture the white blob on my foot is actually the dressing covering the gross part of my foot so nothing gets in it while it's healing.  These cute sandals were perfectly accommodating to my foot and quite pleasant in the 85+ degree weather we had!

Here's a quick rundown of where you can find some of these great options I wore on Friday:

  • Blazer: LOFT
  • Dress: Target
  • Sandals: Charming Charlie
  • Necklace: Freshwater Pearls from Hawaii
  • Watch: Rolex (law school graduation present)
  • Rings: VT Class Ring & David Yurman Petite Wheaton in Black Onyx
  • Bangles & Earrings (white gold/diamond hoops you can't see in this picture): Malani Jewelers

I love love love this dress. It is SO comfortable and easy to wear and looks so profesh with this fabulous blazer! My jewelry options are pretty standard- always have the same watch, bangles, and earrings (usually alternate with pearls).

What was your favorite outfit of the week?? Do you have any staple pieces that you wear all the time?

Injury Sminjury (is that even a word??)

Well, there is no Playlist Wednesday this week since I haven't run since my half marathon 10 days ago (ugh has it really been that long???)! During my race, I developed a nasty blister around mile 11 and then the week after my race, I had the smart idea to wear heels to work even though my feet were killing me! The blister popped and I didn't take care of the open "wound."  Well, now, thanks to my vanity and wanting to be tall/wear my favorite high heels to work, I now have a stupid infected foot!

After much persuading by my parents, I made a trip to Danville Tuesday night and early Wednesday morning I had an appointment with my usual doctor to see if he could figure out what was going on…which was an infection to be treated with antibiotics (bactrim 2x/day-ugh eating 2 big meals a day is my worst nightmare) and keep my foot elevated to reduce some of the swelling. Well, that won't be quite so possible while I'm at work but at  least if I suck it up a few more days it will heal better so I can get back to running and my 30DS!

Here's my gross infected foot if you're interested in what will happen if you DON'T take care of your feet after a big race:

Unfortunately, I haven't been able to run or put much pressure on my foot because of the ridiculous amount of pain and itching (apparently, I was told, this is the infection moving into my foot and eventually my lower leg) I can barely exercise.  I have been keeping up with the 30DS but only doing the Strength and Abs circuit since doing jumping jacks is kinda painful right now.  I do feel overall stronger and I am obsessed with doing crunches.  I can tell my arms and shoulders are getting stronger because I moved from the 3lb weights to 5lb within the first week and hopefully I'll be using my 8lb weights at least halfway through level 2!

I also purchased Jillian Michael's Ripped in 30 DVD so that is my next workout once I finish this round of 30DS. I am pretty excited about trying something new and hopefully it'll bring some welcome changes! I can't wait to start it and review each level on here once I get to those workouts!I

Hopefully, Playlist Wednesday will return next week and my foot is all infection free! In the meantime, why don't you laugh at this picture from getting my first paycheck as a working Attorney (I don't think I could have been more eager to open this envelope hah):

Hope everyone is having a great week! Look out for some interesting posts later this week/end about my running must haves!!

How do you keep from going crazy during an injury? What was the worst fitness related injury you've had??

Sunday Recipe- Birthday Cake Remix Rice Crispies

OK- this is one of my all time favorites! I made this last July when I literally flew up to Detroit for less than 36 hours to surprise my brother for his birthday, which happened to be 9 days before the Bar Exam! I was so upset that I had missed so many family occasions (and especially because of all of the things going on with my family at the time) because I was literally studying for the bar exam for 16 months so my mom and I concocted this plan where I would leave from Raleigh at the crack of dawn (had to leave Greensboro SO early for my flight) and then catch a flight from Raleigh to Charlotte and from Charlotte to Detroit and then my brother's girlfriend would pick me up from the airport and we would go straight to lunch and surprise my brother and the rest of my family!

Needless to say, they were excited and my brother was double excited when I showed him these birthday cake remix rice crispie treats I made and brought with me that morning for his birthday!

Here's the recipe:

NewImage

My Notes:

  • I used a ton more sprinkles on the top to make it more festive!
  • I used more marshmallows for extra sweetness!
  • Use a non-stick pot for the marshmallows and butter, it will make clean up SO much easier!
  • Work fast because you want to make sure everything is mixed well before the marshmallow and butter mixture hardens.
  • Use VERY low heat-- I promise, it's a fool-proof recipe if you do this!

This recipe is pretty basic- I found it on a Pin on Pinterest and when I went to the grocery for ingredients, this exact recipe was on the box! If you love rice crispie treats and you love birthday cake, you will LOVE these!

What's your favorite birthday treat/dessert of choice?
